This classic roasted turkey method uses a brown paper bag to lock in moisture, creating a tender, juicy bird. Filled with aromatic vegetables and seasoned simply with butter, salt and pepper, it's an easy way to make the yummiest turkey.
Ingredients
- 1 whole turkey (12-14 lbs), cleaned gizzards and neck removed
- 1 onion, quartered
- 1 stick celery, chopped
- 1 carrot, chopped
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 2 brown paper shopping bags
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Place onion, carrot and celery inside the turkey cavity.
- Rub half the butter inside the cavity. Coat the outside of the turkey with the remaining butter, and season generously with salt and pepper.
- Place the turkey breast-side down in a large brown paper bag. Slide the first bag into a second to fully enclose the turkey.
- Place the bagged turkey in a roasting pan and position it in the middle of the oven.
- Roast for 3-4 hours or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the break reads 165°.
- Remove from the oven, let rest for 20-30 minutes, then carve and serve.
